Yea - Good news I am back and all my work caught up on. Housework- that's another story, but now that I am caught up I will have time to get the house caught up too!
The boys were off school today for MLK day. Levi and Jake were out riding the four wheeler and noticed that a cow had calved and the calf was not doing well. After much effort - even bringing him in the house- yes our house ( you have to be a farm wife to understand this) to get warm by the stove he still died. We should be having lots more calves in the coming months so look forward to all those cute calf pics like the one above from last year. I didn't post a photo of todays calf cause lets face it - it was not a pretty sight. But that is life on a farm. You take the good with the bad and most of the time the good far outweighs the bad.

So sorry to hear about your calf. My sister-in-law lived on a buffalo ranch for a while, and the family she lived with had a baby buffalo (one of twins) that lived in their house. Her name was Annabelle and she was so cute! It was strange to me to see her in the house, even though we've had lots of different animals in our house. Once she got bigger, she had to move outside!
We have raised a couple calves that way. Once they usually get good and dry and the weather cooperates they go into the barn lot where they get bottles from me, hubby or the boys. They really get attached to their human Mommies.
Sorry to hear about the calf. I hate that circle of life stuff.

Yep, I know about bringin' em in the house to warm em up. I noticed one of my longhorns had calved last week. Couldn't find the calf. We looked at our records and she wasn't due till March. So there is one less this year.

So sorry about the calf. We only had one milk cow while I was growing up so I don't have much experience with calves, but I remember having tiny piglets, each in their own 5 gallon bucket in the mud room when I was a child. Of course, when you're 7 or 8 bottle feeding them was fun. I don't think my parents were as thrilled.
I'm sorry about your calf! I would love to have some cows someday. I am beginning to accept loss better ever since we started keeping chickens and guineas.

So sorry about the calf. We've had years where more calves have died than have lived - which is always a bummer.
