First things first- this is not one of my squirrels, but isn't he the cutest little thing?
Did anyone watch American Idol last night? They were in Kentucky. This one young man named Mark Mudd got up to the mike and sang George Jone's White Lightening. He of course was turned down by the judges. As he was walking out he told the judges to be careful. Ms. Drama Paula and Simon took that as a threat!
This young man was in no way threatening any of them - Here in WV the phrase " be careful" is used in the same context as "take care". Really! I tell my hubby and kids and most people I know to be careful all the time. When they leave for work, school, ball games, the movies etc. It is basically just Southern hospitality.
I felt sorry for that poor guy last night on American Idol. When Paula asked him if that was a threat he had a look on his face like "Huh?"
Maybe the big city producers should learn a little bit about Southern hospitality - they could take a few lessons from small town life and mannerism.

I watched it b/c it was in Louisville, thought I might see someone I know with it being so close to home. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that was bothered by that. When they started saying is that a threat I had that look of HUH?, too. I thought maybe I had missed something.

I grew up with George Jones as a frequent guest in my parents home.
When I was 22 he got down on his knees, on his bus, and sang "Lookout Heart" to me. If someone tells George or Nancy about this, he will probably give the guy a call. What dim wits! Poor guy!
What a bunch of idiots...I was raised in CA but my parents were from the South - and "be careful" has always been a part of my speech.
NEVER has anyone ever taken offence to it.
They owe the man a public apology, IMO.
Wow Carol- George and Nancy in your parents home, and to have him sing to you- I am envious! You were one lucky little girl. I have always heard they were really good people.
I agree Tatersmama, I think they owe him a BIG apology.
Okay, so I am British and even I thought what the heck were they talking about. I tend to say "drive carefully or take care," but even so I also saw it was not a threat. Over dramatic or what....still it got people talking!!
