Fun in the Sun.. err... Hayfield

It was hay making time last week on the farm. Our boys are old enough to help out in the field- they have been since they were old enough to walk. Don't judge me- free labor is hard to find.
After they help out in the field - they get to play. They love to get on top of the haybales and jump.

Let's just say that "someone" inherited his mother's short and stubby legs (at least until he hits the teenage years whereas they grow like the jolly green giant) But look at that show of brotherly love. Giving his brother a leg up only so they can play "king of the bale" and wrestle one into submission by pushing him to the ground. Mothers of boys will understand this. Once they both get on the bale then its on like Donkey Kong.

In the end it's all good! Just a side note these pictures were taken a couple years ago - since then Luke and Levi are now both 530 feet tall at least. I'm just saying....

free labor IS hard to come by! I always joke and tell everyone that is the only reason why I had kids =) Look at it this way - it teaches them all kind of good values.

Hey Angie! How are you? Hay time, I remember well how hard my boys worked during hay season. We buy hay now.We went by a field yesterday that had just been rolled, it smelled so good!

What's wrong with free labor? My kids have been in home repair boot camp this summer.
I remember baling as a kid.- before the invention of the big round bales- when you got to throw the square bales up onto the wagon.. I was the youngest so was too little to throw them onto the wagon- I got to stack them once they were up. YUCK!!!!

We used to do square bales when I was a kid too! I was one of the stackers as well UGH!! The only good thing was the Grandma always fixed a HUGE meal for lunch and supper. Mmmm - those were the good ole days and we usually went swimming in the river to cool off in the evening time too.

Isn't a fresh cut field of hay about one of the prettiest sights Carol? Our fields look so pretty after they are cut - and I love the smell too.

Free labor is a good thing! My kids love jumping from bale to bale when we line them up in the field - keeps them occupied for HOURS!
