Old Fashioned Biscuits

2 Cups all- purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
4 Tablespoons shortening
1 cup of milk or buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450.

In a large bowl mix together flour, salt, baking powder. Mix in shortening with hands until well blended.

Add just enough milk to make a firm dough. If you have added too much milk just add a little more flour.

Put dough on a lightly floured board and pat out dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into biscuits with a jelly jar (wide mouth for big biscuits)

Place on an ungreased pan and bake until golden brown.

Mmmmm.. Biscuits and sausage gravy.
It was the one thing I couldn't get enough of, when we were back home last March.

I'm going to have to learn to make my own sausage, I think.

I finally got my total of canned sausage from last week. 80 Quarts! Whew!

Just had to let you know, they are awesome! I had to try your recipe this evening and wallah, success!
I have now converted and will no longer rely on self-rising flour.
Thanks, Angelena.

I've been making mine with self-rising flour. I'm going to try these after Christmas when things settle down for us.

Thanks for the recipe!

Merry Christmas!
Sharon
