My mom made most of our clothes when I was a little girl. Like a dummy I never took an interest in making my own clothes until a few years ago. I went to the store and bought a pattern that looked pretty simple to make-or so I thought.
When I got home and unwrapped the tissue like pattern and looked at all the lines and darts I knew I was in trouble! But I did not quit. I read and re read the pattern over and over until I was cross eyed with confusion. But I was determined and set out pinning and cutting. After about 6 hours of hair pulling and nail biting decisions I had finished and what a mess I had created! Oh my if you could have only seen it! Beautiful - the material was beautiful but it looked absolutely nothing like anything that even resembled what was on the pattern. Not to mention that I couldn't even fit in it! lol!
That was the last time I had attempted to do anything with a pattern other that quilting until I came across an article called Patterns Demystified on Sew Mama Sew. This is a well explained tutorial that I think I can actually follow. Who would have thunked it?
