Homemade Breadcrumbs

Still Life, Bread
Still Life, Bread

Making your own homemade breadcrumbs is a very simple thing to do, and it can save you a lot of money if you use breadcrumbs in your cooking.

You can use any type of bread- homemade, store bought, hamburger, hot dog buns, you get the picture. No one likes to eat the ends of the bread loaves here so they get sliced off and put in a ziploc bag and placed in the freezer. Any old bread or leftover buns also get placed in the freezer bag. When the bag is full it is time to make breadcrumbs.

Heat your oven to a low heat 200 degrees ( or in the wintertime place on the woodstove) and place your bread on a cookie sheet. dry your bread out, remove from the oven and then cool.

Once the bread has cooled put it in the food processor and chop until you have the consistency you desire.

You can also add spices to like basil, oregano and garlic to make Italian breadcrumbs.

I place my breadcrumbs into a quart jar and put in the freezer until I am ready to use them.
