A Sad Day
The two pictures you see are one of my best friends. Bearcub. He is a Norwegian Elkhound.
Bear has been missing since Monday afternoon. Now keep in mind that we live on a large farm and he likes to go roaming around finding groundhogs and other varmints to hunt. But he always comes home every evening.
My hubby and brother in law have drove around the mountain side looking for him and calling his name to no avail. He loves to ride in a vehicle so we know he would come running to get a ride back home. We live in very rural area so putting out posters would not help. He has our name on his collar and in this small community everyone knows everyone and if they found him - they would call or bring him by the house.
Once in a while you find a dog that is worth its weight in gold. Bear is that type of dog. Fearless, he would kill any snake that came around and bay the rattlesnakes until you could get the gun. A Nanny- he would vigilantly watch over me and the boys whenever we went into the woods or for a walk. Faithful and loyal- when my Dad had his cancer surgery and stayed with us a few days, bear stayed right by his feet. Never leaving my Dads side even when Dad went to the bathroom Bear would lay beside the door until Dad was finished. He knew my Dad was hurting and needed a buddy and he was there for him.
Many nights during the summer I would go out and sit on the porch. There was Bear scooted up right beside me listening attentively to my days problems like a true friend.
I have not given up hope on Bear. I keep waiting for him to scratch at the door wanting to come inside and lay beside me on the couch. In my heart I know something is wrong. Bear would have come home by now - and it is hard to lose one of your best friends. So please if you remember - say a little prayer that my bearcub will return home to me.
